With the start of Fall and Oscar season, let’s talk about all the other great, under-appreciated films of the year, such as, Slow West. Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Mendelsohn, and Michael Fassbender, Slow West is a great directorial debut for John Maclean and a triumphant return to form for Westerns. Concise, simplistic, and touching, Slow West tells the story of unlikely pairing of characters in search of a most wanted female, in Smit-McPhee’s case it means reencountering with his loved one, and in Fassbender’s mind it means money. With great onscreen chemistry, both Fassbender and Smit-McPhee kill it, Medelsohn delivers another solid performance as the villain, dialogue’s great, and the outside setting’s are filmed magnificently. In conclusion, Slow West is a really cool, under-watched Western that more people should watch because it delivers with a compelling story, a suspenseful action scene, great conversations, and good performances, allowing me to rank it at a 92 out of 100.
