The Guard Review

Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 9.54.24 PM     The Guard, McDonagh’s dark comedy about a corrupt from rural Ireland, basically the twisted Irish version of Hot Fuzz. Yet the word twisted doesn’t damage this film, but instead, The Guard seems to benefit from the fact that its structures upon said damaged base. This movie is hilarious from start to finish, definitely one of the most underrated comedies in recent years, playing off Gleeson’s unconventional character that happens to be extremely witty, and really fun to follow around even though he’s not that relatable, the film gently moves along with its narrative whilst inserting smart jokes here and there. Gleeson’s comedic timing is just incredible, each time escalating his remarks to funnier yet more immoral remarks, Gleeson does a perfect job alongside Don Cheadle. And in the end, The Guard concludes in an awesomely while at the same time making fun of itself, its just great. In conclusion, The Guard receives an 81 out of 100.
